Pecan Street Project Inc., Austin Technology Incubator (ATI) and the Webber Energy Group will host a weeklong course on entrepreneurship and business development in the clean energy and smart grid sectors. Smart.Clean.Energy: 8:30 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 to 1 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the AT&T Conference Center (1900 University Avenue, Austin, Texas 78705) at the University of Texas at Austin.

Energy Technology and Policy, short course: 8:30 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

Commercializing Energy Innovations, short course: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 to 1 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011.

Individuals and companies looking to develop a solid foundation in, and harness opportunities presented by, the current state of clean energy and smart grid should take advantage of this unique opportunity. Engineers, attorneys, planners, software developers, the utility industry and anyone looking to learn more about opportunities in this exciting field will benefit from attending the course. Attendance is limited to approximately 100 registrants.

The convergence of clean energy and smart grid investment is creating remarkable opportunity for entrepreneurs. This course will provide participants an inside look at emerging business opportunities in clean energy and smart grid. Presented by international energy experts and the team managing a nationally renowned Department of Energy Smart Grid Demonstration Project, participants in Smart.Clean.Energy will develop a solid foundation of concepts, technologies and business skills necessary to take advantage of this dynamic market from today’s thought leaders and cutting-edge businesses. The course agenda will provide a broad background in fundamental energy concepts and detailed teaching on the smart grid and clean energy entrepreneurialism. The lectures and case studies will be presented by staff members from the three organizations, as well as industry experts.

“Energy Technology and Policy,” presented by Dr. Michael E. Webber (UT Austin), will cover:

  • energy fundamentals,
  • energy policy basics,
  • critical technologies to the green energy transition,
  • the nexus of food and energy and the nexus of water and energy,
  • energy and the economy and
  • utilities and transportation of the future

“Commercializing Energy Innovations,” presented by Pecan Street Project Inc. & ATI, will provide participants with knowledge and insider information to start their own smart grid organization, including:

  • understanding electricity markets and regulatory considerations,
  • identifying the problems smart grid solves,
  • a market sector analysis of emerging smart grid & clean energy industries,
  • an introduction to entrepreneurship,
  • finding and securing investors,
  • building your business team and
  • incubation & community-building
