DNA Art US is founded on the premise that good style is not in the eye of the beholder, it is in our genetics.
Launched in December 2010, the Dallas-based company provides a wide range of high quality artworks made from the pattern that their customer’s DNA profile produces.
The process works like this: The company sends a DNA collection kit, which is returned to a lab for processing. The resulting unique DNA profile is then turned into artworks displayed on sleek and contemporary acrylic, hand stretched and wrapped canvas, brushed aluminum or metallic prints, with more than 20 color options.
DNA Art US started after company president Ric Harrison, a photographer, discovered a United Kingdom variant of the company looking to expand into North America.
Harrison put his photo business on the back burner to develop the DNA art business and now devotes his full-time to marketing and growing the company.
The art business equates to billions of dollars in consumer spending and from 1996 to 2009, the number of artists in the workforce increased 17 percent, according to The National Arts Index an annual measure of the health and vitality of arts in the U.S.
Art follows the business cycles and Harrison said building the sales for a luxury product is the most challenging in the present economic environment.
However, Harrison said he is gaining traction and the company projects increased sales in 2011.
To produce the artwork, Harrison’s company works with a leading next-generation sequencing service in the UK, which combines all the latest technologies for genomic analyses.
Since starting, Harrison has also developed relationships with with several other Texas-based businesses to create and deliver products throughout North America, the Caribbean and South America.
