BMC Acquires Another Austin Start-Up

In an effort to upgrade its systems management capabilities as more companies shift from physical infrastructure to cloud-based solutions, BMC Software recently acquired VaraLogix Inc., an Austin-based enterprise software company, for an undisclosed amount.
BMC’s relationship with Austin start-ups dates back 12 years when they acquired ATI alum Evity Inc. Rob Neville, Evity’s CEO at the time, worked with ATI for a year and a half before selling the company to BMC for over $100 million. 10 years down the road when Neville was seeking operational and strategic guidance with his new venture, Savara Pharmaceuticals, he partnered again with ATI and was able to secure over $8 million in funding.
Over the past decade, BMC has acquired four Austin tech companies; half of which graduated from ATI. In addition to Evity, BMC purchased Phurnace Software in 2010 for an undisclosed amount. Robert Reeves and Daniel Nelson, co-founders of Phurnace (and college dorm mates), would go on to launch Datical Inc., which is also currently working with ATI. , heading the IT and Wireless Portfolio.
Over the past four years, ATI has helped more than 70 companies raise more than $150 million in investor capital.
